Re: [FWDLK] Tech 101: Ethanol in gasoline and its effects on collector cars | H

My opinion:

Sta-Bil marine is great for marine blend gas, but not street blend gas.
Sta-Bil for the street is best for highway blend gas without Ethanol, not good for marine blends.
StarTron marine is better for marine blends than Sta-Bil marine.
StarTron street blend is best for street blend gas that has Ethanol in better than Sta-Bil.
This is my opinion based on my experience over the last three winters here on the East coast, Where the Gasoline we are forced to buy is just the worst blend in the nation and it just sucks.
If you must store a vehicle with Ethanol blend gas, usr StarTron.
If you can get old time blend gas use Sta-Bil for storage.
If you drive your car on a regular base, don,t use either.
All of the above are just my opinion.

PS: Never use Aviation Gas (Avgas)  Red 80/87 octane is to low and for low RPM engines.
Green 100/130 has 4 grams led/ gal, could be used but not great.
Blue 100LL minimum lead 2grams / gal, not good at all.
Purple 115/145 great to use if you can fin and then be able to buy it.

Not to divert from this topic, but do you prefer Marine Sta-bil to regular Sta-bil ? I ask because I'm going to use Sta-bil this year for the first time and needed the 'skinny' on this.

Piggybacking off of this, has anyone on this list actually had any problems with their cars from this stuff. I changed one fuel filter a couple years ago that appeared to have some crap in it, but since it'd been years since I changed it, I can't attribute it to ethanol but I never had a real problem, sputter, cough or anything in my cars. I did have issue with one generator and since then I've been adding marine stabil to my small equipment year round. But I usually drive my cars quite a bit in the summer and at least once a month in the winter.
I "hear" of people having issues in cars with the stuff, but have not met anyone who said yeah, I had a problem….
