Well, shit... Got out my 40 Years of Stock Car Racing, expecting to find Johnnie Allen's Factory Fury race car, around May, 1956. 40-Years has a photo of a 56 Fury (complete with fully-round rear wheel openings!), at the 5/20/56 Martinsville race. Problem is, that car (#39 ??) is not listed in that race's results, and I can't find any other references to PLY #39 throughout the 56 season. Called my buds at NASCAR archives and they confirmed that the only car that Mr. Allen drove was #264, for Spook Crawford, throughout the ENTIRE 56 NASCAR season (actually Allen drove a Poncho & a Booick for a couple races, that year, too). NASCAR has no records of this car #39 in any of its race records. Car #264 at that race was Johnnie Allen, in Spook Crawford's 55 PLY. Car #55 at that race was Tiny Lund's 55 Poncho. Car #59 at that race was Blackie Pitt's 55 Booick. So, there WAS a 'Mystery Fury' at Martinsville, but that car/driver does not appear anywhere else in NASCAR's records or in the 40-Years book. If both pics can't be attached to this, I'll send them separately.
