Re: [FWDLK] lug nuts 1956 Mopar?

If this lack of uniformity causes confusion, wait till you discover how they PURPOSELY mixed, matched, and made
special pieces to create altogether different cars for non-US markets !  8^O

And when asked about "Why ?", it is explained that this was a "cost savings measure" !  Now, I like having smoke
blown up my ass as much as the next guy, but I do have a reasonable handle on the principles of industry and production
costs and this makes as much sense as someone saying "We let the air out of the tires to get better mileage".

Making lots and lots of the same thing CUTS costs.  Making special stuff in small quantities (with the logistics of moving
special parts to different production locations) does anything BUT cut costs.

Either math worked differently in the FL era, or I am missing a factor in the equation.  ;-)

Plymouth used lug bolts at least thru '59. Never understood the lack of uniformity between makes, since I'm pretty sure the same vendor made all the drums for Chrysler Corporation cars.

wasn't the switch from lug bolts to lug nuts a change that occurred between the '55s and the '56s?

From my experience the ‘50’s Dodges I’ve worked on had lug nuts, the DeSotos and Plymouths had lug bolts and a guide pin. The studs and lug nuts are a lot easier to put a wheel on, don’t know why they ever used lug bolts.   Never seen a car with mixed drums; if someone has that setup maybe some drums were switched or possibly the whole axle.

What size are the lug nuts on our '56 Mopars?

I need a lug wrench and want the right one.
