Re: [FWDLK] 58 Coronet on eBay

He shows D-500 in the title but never mentions it again. The car is NOT a D-500 and I don’t even think he meant say it is. But I do believe that he, like many others, wants to put as much BS in the title as he can on the premise that it will attract viewers. That D-500 there will make more people open the auction to view it. So he adds D-500 to the title so we all get excited about his poly headed, two barreled carb 325 powered Coronet. Crappy way of doing things? Yes.

Ever wonder why you will find Chevy’s  and Ford’s in a Dodge ad (Or whatever combination of vehicles)? It’s because somewhere in the title or subtitles the seller adds names of competing brands on the hopes that the auction gets looked by those who wouldn’t generally open a Chebby auction on the hopes that some lifelong Mopar guy will suddenly fall in love with his rusted out, beat to crap SBC (S**t box Chebby) powered POS. Back in the 50’s we’d call this thing a “Gook wagon (no Intention of referring to any nationalities, just to all the added “gook” on the car) with all Its chrome do-dads and fender skirts, antennas, bumper teeth, those ugly-as-sin exhaust tips and what all. All he needs now is a continental kit. If this was a Schwinn it’d have handle bar streamers and little propellers added to the handlebar along with the jewel shaped reflectors on the license plate (Bicycles were licensed back then) and a beaver tail attached to a fake antenna. I wonder why he doesn’t have any beaver tails attached to the cars antennae?

Ebay auctions, and all on-line sales sites have no control as to exactly what the seller claims. Yes there are recourses if you buy something that is blatantly mis-represented but that can be a long and iffy process.

This is the kind of car that makes want to tell the seller just how much he has screwed up a nice car but you know what? He gets compliments on the car and bnids on his auction so why should he care?

Also, I just noticed that he lists it as a D-500.  But my 57 D-500 Coronet is a 325 Hemi.  This car is not a Hemi, nor is it a big-block (361?).  Is this more BS?  Wouldn't a D-500 have a D-500 engine?

Just saw this car on eBay (not mine), and maybe I know more about 57s and 59s, but I do have a 58 Coronet 2dr Lancer hardtop, and it doesn't have half of the chrome gee-gaws that this car has.  Seems this one has emblems added everywhere (fins, rear seat, tops of front fenders, etc) that my Coronet does not have.  Since I hope to restore mine some day, your comments would be appreciated.

Am I crazy, but does this car have added "bling"?  Comments....

Just look at the color and it all starts to become clear .....  a "Look at ME !" kinda guy owned this.  The kind of guy who

is all about the attention the car brings him than being into the car.  I'll bet it comes with a whole trunk full of ribbons and

trophies too, just to let everyone know that you too can be a "winner".

  Cursory look ....

  3 hood ornaments

  57 DeSoto fender toppers

  Skirts (insert puking icon here)

Incorrect rocker mouldings (Spring Special or later)

  60 and later hooded mirrors

What does he have in the dip of the back seat ????

Probably has chromed belts and hoses under the hood too.

All easy fixes, except the paint.
