Re: [FWDLK] Looking for a 1955-1956 Double Power Window Switch Bezel

I find this an interesting discussion as my 2003 Neon SRT-4 had only power windows on the front windows, not the rear.  The rears were crank.  Dodge at the time claimed it was for 'weight savings' for a performance car.  And Dodge does have a history of doing this sort of thing for that reason- witness the early 60's Superstock cars with no rear seats, A100 Van seats in front, only a strap to raise and lower the windows, plastic windows and extensive use of aluminum front sheet metal.  Maybe the FL cars were the genesis for this tradition as Chrysler was heavily involved in racing at the time, and more weight=more power needed to move it.
Just a theory, but still an interesting discussion….

Enjoy!
Charles.

The two door suburban has only two windows that roll down.

I did find something interesting, though.

There were two Broadcast Sheets produced for the 1957 MY.

The first one is dated 9/56, and it is the original (laminated) one I produced,
earlier.

The Second one is dated 2/57.

The early one has no Super D500 option coded for it.

The later one uses a previously blank code to state: " Super D-500"

And (here it comes); the later one has option code 385 (where the earlier B.-Sheet
referenced as 2-door window lifts) being, now, blank.

BTW, that D501 with "power windows" option turned out to be a convertible,
with the 4-power lifts (code 386).

Close, but no cigars.

Neil,

I can't say one way or another how they came, but look at the attached photo of the 1957 Dodge order form. The dealer would have to have some inside knowledge to know what checking box 385 was going to give him.

I also have a Dodge Options ands Accessories price bulletin dated October 30,1956. It lists the 4 window power lift ( All except 2-Door Suburban ) and the tailgate window lift ( Two Seat Wagons only ) as being available. No 2 window power lift is offered in it.
