There was a design error on those Plymouths. Somehow, the UNLADEN weight was substituted for the LADEN weight in the design stage, resulting in the rear springs being too weak, and dragging bumpers if anyone sat in the rear seat. Somewhere along the production, it was corrected, without much fanfare. I had an early '57 Plymouth Belvedere hardtop, (Wish I still had it!!), and swapped springs with a friend who was trading in his "58 to fix it.

ALSO, was that measurement without any passengers???
or a full up loaded car???

It would appear that the springs for a 54" car would have to be bowed
DOWN-which does not make real sense.

I was wondering if anyone on the list ever did research on this topic in
the past
