Re: [FWDLK] 1961 Newport Headlight Switch

Does anyone know what the 62 rod looks like and its length?

The electric "plug" won't be a problem because there isn't one on the 61 switch.  Each wire plugs independently onto a spade on the switch.    Later models (mid-60's) had all the wires connected to a single plug that engaged all 7 spades on the switch at once.

It's the knob rod that may be different.  The 61 rod is round with one flat side and is 2-3/4" long.  I know some later models have triangular rods (3 flat sides).

Basically, a switch is a switch. Pretty much, they all do the same job.
In those old cars, it was very simple.
So, the electric plug may be different for each year, but it could be easily wired to work.
Check the electric diagrams for each year and get the color codes, work from there.
Also, the knob rod  should be about the same. so you may be able to use the original knob in the later switch.

From what I can see they mount the same, but the connections are quite different.

But will the 62 Chrysler switch work in a 61?  I can drop a couple of hundred on an NOS 61 switch or $16 on an after market 62 switch at my local parts store.

Not sure why, but the part numbers are different. 61 # is 2240534. 62 is 2275586
