Re: [FWDLK] Power steering hose

My story.......I crossed a bridge in heavy commute traffic driving my 1957 Adventurer.  Just as I pulled into the muffler shops driveway, black smoke was lifting from the sides of the hood.  A quick thinking service writer yanked open the hood and had a fire extinguisher close at hand to put out the engine fire.  The oem DeSoto ps hose had split at a fitting.  While they did muffler work, I walked 2 blocks to a hydraulic hose place and they made me new one in 1/2 hour.  Close call.  I was able to drive home  Always carry an extinguisher.

I agree with Larry’s recommendation on having your hose “made” to fit your application.  I did the same for my Dart when all the on-the-shelf retail outlets failed me.  I went to a local shop that made & supplied industrial type hoses for all applications and brought them my old worn hose for an example; it was done right and still functioning well after 15yrs +

Yep.......have one made and you can trust it and it will be just the right size.  The fittings may will not look oem, but the new hose will out last the car.

I was going to suggest that. Look for a local  hydraulics shop, and bring your old hose.

What I have found is that the power steering hoses that are out there now are of a universal length Which means they’re a little long for some applications and you get an odd bend in it which you may have to contend with. Other than that they’re fine.

Has any one used Atlas Obsolete Parts for their power  steering hoses or any other parts.  If so was the quality good and were they good to deal with?  I am looking to replace my pressure hose and filter and they sell a kit with both hoses, filter, decal and tubing clamps.  Thank you in advance for any info
