Old T-Shirts - Several weeks ago when I was reading some of the Forward Look postings, I chuckled to myself and thought "I bet I have T-shirts older than some of these guys!" Sure enough, I was digging into a drawer this morning to find an shirt I could wear to paint some walls. And there is was: An STP T-shirt given to me by Andy Granatelli back in the 1950s. Now spattered with various colors of paint, as well as the famous STP oval logo, the shirt fits a bit tighter around the middle than it did then, but it brings back some fond memories. stplogo.jpg (1787 bytes)
This logo became a familiar sight on race tracks during the '50s & '60s.

A.J. Foyt
my choice
as all-time best driver
My Candidate for Best All-Time, All-Round Driver - Some race drivers specialize. Don "Big Daddy" Garlitz stuck to dragsters. Richard Petty didn't like open-wheel racers (though he did go drag racing for a time). Others, like Mario Andretti, have more varied racing experience. But nobody compared with A.J. Foyt for versatility. "Run what you brung" might have been his motto. He would drive anything with four wheels...and probably do it better than anyone else around. I watched him race midgets, dirt track cars, Indy cars of different eras, stock cars on ovals and road courses -- and he was great on all of them, the best I ever saw in 25 years of race-watching.
