John Begian, Mark Obermann and I visited with Tom at the Auburn Labor Day 2017 Weekend Auction, where he had 7 cars up for auction. One of them was his daughter's daily driver - this Ram K convertible. Interesting to see the 150 mph speedo - possibly a transplant from a J? Curious that it only has a 2.76:1 rear axle ratio.

The 4 speed was not available with the Ram option or with A/C. Rear axle ratios may have been an issue. The late Lynn Dunsworth modified his J with a '64 4 speed stick (it fit) and with the 3.23 rear it was nearly impossible to get a smooth clutch engagement with the short rams. I rode with him in the car at our 2015 Macungie meet. The J stick option (a 3 speed) used a 3.91 rear. Maybe it was because of no torque converter with a stick, higher rear end ratio needed for torque multiplication with rams??

I thought the 4-speed wasn't available with the ram engine because the clutch linkage didn't fit with the cast iron headers.

While never a big fan of the styling compared to Forward Look years, I think 64 was the only year where it was possible to have a letter car with A/C, short crossrams, and a 4 speed with a convertible top? ( I can't remember if the convertible F Special 4 speed was A/C or not, but it was certainly not readily available like the 300K)
