Hi Dan,

I wondered the same thing when I first saw the hubcap medallions you
mention. The answer is not simple, as always.  I won't speak for other years
I don't know about (300H, 300J) but the 300G's  actually had either
medallions with a dark navy blue, or medallions with  the royal transparent
blue with the metalized backing. We did examine many cars to come to that
conclusion.

The Reproduction Parts committee chose to reproduce the former style.

My '62 has the lighter blue metallic version originally.  It was
produced in April of that year.

There was a concept car a few years ago---Chrysler 300 C [hemi] - but the C
stood for convertable.
Better looking than the new one. The front end is way too blunt!! During Bob
Lutz reign cars looked
good. What happened?  G M sure grabbed him in a hurry. He was a car guy!!
Speaking of concept
cars--I wrote a couple of letters to Chrysler and one to Bob Lutz urging him
make the CHARGER RT
with the new HEMI. Great for street and Nascar!!! Perhaps we should all
write-----about the Charger
and aero the nose on the 300 C  [windtunnel]

I have a 66 fury 83/4 housing in my 64 300. The fury housing is about an
inch or a little less wider
than the 300-- easy to spread the springs that much. Axle bearings must be
adjusted with both
rear wheels in the air [push and pull axle with noticeable clunk] 8-16 thou
in manual. They are a
tapered bearing --if too loose they are hard on seals! They should be
adjusted and GREASED about
every 50 thou miles.

I wouldn't spread the springs that much, myself, I would drill a new pair
of center bolt holes the right spacing just out side the originals. Moving
the spring over a half-inch per side would still leave it well supported,
if it didn't look good enough you could have your local welder weld on a
short piece of angle iron, trimmed to fit, onto the short side to extend
the pad.

Elmer,
I assume you mean the center to center distance between the
spring perches.  Do you recall the overall (flange to flange) measurements ?
I have several 64's and would like to do this swap and have looked at B-body
rears as well as later model C-body rears and cant find one that will leave
the tires where they belong in the wheel wheels.  ie:  bigger tires will
clear the wheel wells with the stock 1964 rear but would put the tires into
the metal with the wider, later model C-body stuff.

Well done Elmer, I also seemed to remember that Chrysler had recently done a
re-birth concept of the 68-70 Charger shape, but then had heard nothing
more.  Chrysler should maybe really think about putting the hemi in their
Charger concept car.  (And look at Nissan's current 200-SX if you think the
68-70 Charger shape is dead - did they steal one on Chrysler?!)

I think I have written enough about what Chrysler should do with the 300
name, and this should be my final comment.  At the end of the day the car
companies own the names they create, use.  Ford have done very well out of
their iconic "Thunderbird" name, and it was a pity when they re-birthed it,
it was not a better more 'win win' for all, not just some brief 'flash in
the pan'.  GM's "Corvette" still lives, as does Ford's "Mustang", although
both have gone through many 'changes', and currently have mixed associations
re what the name now means re it's origins.

Chrysler's "300", in it's first five years at least, was/is something that
the company should be proud of, and hopefully revere.  What do they do with
it now, when if it is currently remembered, it is hopefully for it's early
golden influential years?!
Personally I would hope Chrysler are smart enough to realise they
potentially have something really rare and still special in that name,
"300", and save it for something that will be a new standard, not some
cynical (detroit) short term marketing move.

May I live long and rich enough to want to buy, own, and really repeatedly
enjoy some real special high performance Chrysler styling statement that
wears any new 300 logo.

you give them the message re 300, and 300C, I'm signing out on this one

Bill:

This internet source from "Auto Color Library" is really great.  As you can see, they have "most" all of the colors back into the 20's.

Go check out their site at:

http://www.autocolorlibrary.com/scripts/depot.exe?pgm=aclgate.bbx

The 1957 color chip sheet says to refer to the 1956 colors for "Cloud White".  The 1956 color chip sheet says the Ditzler mix number for "Cloud White" is DQE-8036-DAL.

It is sort of hard to read but that is what it looks like to me.

Why pay for a color chip sheet on E-Bay, especially if you have the "Color Perception Challenged Gene" like I do?

Good Luck,

John Mc Adams

Let me throw in my final 2 cents worth for what it's worth!!
A lot of comparisons have been made to allow for or to tolerate the 300C name on the soon to be mass produced rear wheel drive sedans.

The point is, as I have always understood it....there has never been a Corvette "Letter car".
There has never been a Thunderbird "letter car".
There has never been a Mustang "letter car".
The Chrysler letter cars were something very special from Chrysler. They were never any letter car sedans.
Yes there were 300's but the letter series was reserved for a premium product that demanded a premium price for the real enthusiasts, not the masses.

A glaring example of being caught with your pants down, is the 300M sedan.  When the folks at the top wanted to bring out a premium version of this great car, that should have been a plain 300, what did they find themselves doing??

They had to call it a 300M "Special".  Whoopee and the world swooned???  The evidence is still sitting on dealer lots. What a shame!

The way they are going the next super special letter car will be named a Hemi 300C "Special Deluxe".
And I am so old to even know what it means, and I wouldn't buy one. So all the best DaimlerChrysler!!!pronounced Daimler.

Those great looking cars were not designed by Bob Lutz. The designs were the masterpiece of Tom Gale. He was encouraged to retire early to get rid of his cab forward design.

My personal opinion is the new management wants to control the taxi cab and the police car business. That is why they have gone to a Checker cab front end on the new concepts. It will really do a number on Nascar.

The Charger RT and 300 Hemi Convertible were awespome designs of Tom Gale. Unfortunately we will never see them unless of course someone like Nissan picks up the strong consumer message

to build cars that look like that. Heck, they might even be able to get around the trademark infringements, by giving them Japanese names like Larger RT and Tree hundred Lemi Conwertible.     I'd buy one!!

It's semi-official!!
Nissan is going to do it!
They will introduce a knock of the Chrysler 300 Hemi C Convertible at the next world class show in Tokyo!
It will be called the Nissan Tree Hundred Lemi See Conwertible.
Some kind of car company that Nissan.. they build what people want.
That's exactly what Chrysler Corporation used to do when they were the envy of the automotive world in the years prior to 1998.

For those of you running off to your local Nissan dealer,
Just kiddin, guys and gals!
Sometimes frustration makes you lose it.
Sure is a privilege to understand what a true Letter Car from Chrysler Corporation is all about, right?

Actually, Christopher, you should have typed "MIURA", not
"Muira", but in the end it matters not. Miura or Muira, it never won a race;
in fact, no Lamborghini ever won a race. EVER. The Miura's chief sales

Now, lest John Hertog have a cow over this non-300 posting, let
me take the opportunity to ask if anyone knows what a proper voltage
regulator cover should look like on a 1960 300F. Sure they're black; but
should the cover be completely blank, or should it have large stampings on it
(like BAT or GEN)? I've seen both kinds. Alas, John's photo record of Steve
Albu's 300F is no help, since the regulator is one of the few non-original
