The aluminum must be bright dipped first followed by a light anodizing.
This will give it a slightly shiny finish with the corrosion resistance
of regular anodizing. The alternative is to leave the aluminum natural
as you describe and it will oxidize to a rather unattractive dull gray
finish. It will have a noticeable spot where the oxide is worn away by
contact with your heel while driving.
