RE: [Chrysler300] 300H Front Brakes

Doug,

I would be concerned about the difference in diameter causing uneven
braking. I do not speak from experience because I've not tried to do what
you are suggesting, but as I see it, the drums will react differently to
heat build up. The thinner drum will probably fade sooner than the thicker
drum and cause pulling. Machine shops have told me that .060" over is the
limit, but I do remember a few years back some discussion on this list that
the Chrysler drums could safely be turned farther. Have you checked the
service manual to see what it says? Keep in mind it is important to get
those shoes arced to the drum so the contact is right from the start. Let
us know how it works out.

Hi Group, I am rebuilding the front brakes on one of my H's and have two
questions. The left front drum has been previously turned to .070" over 12".
The service book says that the max allowable is .030". How dangerous is it
to still use this drum? The right front drum has not been turned and should
be cleaned up at less than .030". I am planing to use the left drum as is.
Will different inside drum diameters cause a problem? Doug Warrener
