[Chrysler300] Replacing Park Lock Spring - '63 300

Hi,

The Service Manual indicates that the push button shifter assy should back out of the dash after the mounting nuts are removed.
I tried to move the shifter assy back, but it seemed like there were some metal braces directly behind the assy that would not allow it to move back far enough to tilt down and out of the back of the dash. The manual does not suggest that any of the two cables should be removed prior to taking the assy out. Is there a trick that I may be missing to get this out? Do I need to remove the speedometer?

Thanks,
Mark Lindahl
