[Chrysler300] Brake Question 300 G & a '55 300 positive earth query

1) When a front brake grabs/locks going forward, but is better, locks less going backwards, that is a near 100% usual guarantee of either brake fluid leaked onto brake shoes, or else grease, from a faulty front hub seal.

And when one hears brakes have been recently rebuilt and only have problems since then, this may be the 'modern 300C replacement brake cup trap' that I have mentioned before on this site - namely on at least the 300C, don't know about still with F and G, the factory, or original brake cups, in the wheel cylinders are narrower than the ones in most every other car, and so often it means you are given wrong cups that are too wide, and this results in the sealing lip of the cup being over the small hole in the side of the wheel cylinder when brake pressure pushes cup out to apply brakes - this pressure just nicks the cup edge/surface/lip in one very small spot, and result is a micro leak near impossible to see/detect - except one's brakes pull erratically, and if car not used daily, can lock brakes as just described.
Sorry I do not know correct width of 300 cups, but if no one else can give the correct versus modern (wrong for our 300s) widths, I may have kept some of the right originals I took out of my 300C that led me to this discovery - they are at least 40-50% narrower, a clearly seen difference if one has originals still to compare. An older Lockheed parts listing should also show what cup is correct - anyone got such a listing?2) Rich has just made me/us aware that '55 300s were positive ground. When restoring Healeys and early E Type Jaguars ( I know who would be sadistic enough to want to do that to themselves some may say - but hey after recently fooling around helping with about 5 different body style '57 Chevys (a) what rubbishy light metal/tin they are made of, and boy they make '57 Mopar product rust issues look pretty good in comparison, and (b) what a money pit they can be re how dear the so many bits there are that it is usually easier to buy new, or else if not available, some parts s/hand make 300C- G original parts look a bargain!!?) - but back to the point - Healeys and Jags nowadays are nearly always converted to 'non correct' negative ground because I was told of 'electrolysis' - namely never leave a positive earth battery connected, as it acts as like a metal plater in reverse - ie eats metal away. This came from one of world's most regarded E Type Restorers, and same with Healey Factory Restorations. Both thought I crazy, leaving both mine positive earth original, but I always disconnect battery. Any '55 300 ( or other +ground cars) thoughts/knowledge/experiences re this positive earth 'negative factor' - warning?!

3) been trying to think just what caused my first 300C wiring harness ignition lock failure/fire - it was I think that the diecast barrel of the lock is peened over in a few spots to hold the guts inside it, and this peening failed, let go, and lock guts then shorted internally.
So if you have a similar lock, it might pay to check how well it still peened if you have it out - obviously in hindsight, tjhe reason my 300C already had wrong wires in engine bay harness was they had already been replaced once, and likely it was same lock that failed before and had burnt out the correct originals ?!!
A 300 wiring short most anywhere else in the car that does not involve this heavy red power wire going through ammeter and to ignition lock, would not I believe burn the harness as has happened with me and your US driver's 300 fire.

Enough of me again already, Christopher

Brake Question on 300 G.My Right Front Wheel ( Brake ) locks up on the 300 G.It has been very Grabby since I Worked on the brakes 2 years ago.Today I locked up in the driveway and that's where it is.The brakes work fine in reverse ( backing up ).Push the drive button, some times the car goes forward, but today the right front just locked up on the car .Lots of black tire marks on the drive way from the tire just skidding on the black top.Two years ago the brakes were disassembled.everything cleaned up and reassembled. The brake linings were good, the Drums were good, the springs and other hardware were cleaned up.I rebuilt the wheel cylinders ( 2 each front wheel )Put in DOT 5 Brake fluid, (silicone).I did NOT Replace the Brake hoses to the front wheels.Question: Why is the right front locking up?Could the brake hose be coming apart on the insideof the hose, and not allowing the brake fluid flow correctly?Should I put in NEW Wheel cylinders?Could there be some binding in the "backing Plate"or with some of the other Brake parts in the wheel?300ly,Lauren R LampiGrand Rapids, MN300 G HT(trying to get it on the road)[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
