  Dear Burt,
I would love to see the attachment as well as all the others you have mentioned. Our listserver doesn't allow them. Would you send me one? I have been fascinated with all your memories.

I was not at Daytona Beach in 1958 but according to the Daytona Beach Morning Journal, the attachment shows what happened in the Class 7 Flying Mile event. 1958 was an all Pontiac show. They swept the first six places.
300D's came in 7th (Larry Rouse) and 8th (Herb Wiseman) - about 10 MPH slower than the first place Pontiac.

Chrysler Engineering was not involved because of an automotive industry agreement in 1957 - commonly called "the AMA agreement" - not to promote or support vehicle performance or racing activities.

1958 was the last year for Chrysler's 392 cu. in. hemi engine.

    All:
For those of you interested in the subject manual shift 300D that ran at
Daytona in 1958 (driven to Daytona by its owner after pickup at the Jefferson
Assy. Plant in Detroit), I wrote an article on it in the Club News, Volume
32, No. 2. (Winter 2006) I had contacted the original owner's wife and
she and her daughter and grandsons made the trip over to Tahoe to see the
car. There is included in the article a picture of them with the car.
Regarding the wires thru the sparkplug covers, I am of the opinion the
second owner probably did that. He apparently drag raced the car. I question
that kind of modification would be allowed in the stock classes, plus the
fact that they just barely arrived at Daytona in time to participate.
Since Dr. Magee is no longer alive, we will never know for sure, I guess.

That's the car and the owner. The article to which you refer is one of
the pieces of documentation that I was looking at a couple of months ago.

Where did you see this article? Is it posted somewhere on the net?

    Rich,

Was that the car that was purchased by Dr. Herbert Magee, Jr. At Ely
Motors in Redwood City in California? If so, it was featured in the April 15,
1958 issue of the Chrysler publication Chrysler Times that was sent to
dealerships. There is a picture with Dr. Magee, dealership owner Leonard Ely, W.
    E. Faraker, Exec. Assistant to V. P, of Sales, Chrysler and L. K. Hancock,
Chrysler District Manager in the article.
