[Chrysler300] Gas Station wisecracks - This happens to all of us

Funny thing is that here in Australia, Studebakers are surely way less well known than in the US, but be it my '57 300C, or even same year TBird, most common guess by those who hasven't a clue is - you guessed it - "it's a Studeybaker, right?" Go figure?!

But also, against all/any gas mileage 'smart arses', there are untold others who admire, respect, and yes even love our old 50s early 60s 'yank iron'. It amazes many, that I never lock mine when leaving them, plus I leave all the windows down - in near 30 years now, don't need to as most would never think of harming/touching.

And how is this for a side benefit of using our 300s, other classics?! - I am in my '57 TBird the other day, stopped at lights, on the right side of a big slab fronted B Double Semi (Tractor Trailer in US?), that towers of my low softop - it's driver invisible, as he high above my left (for US Readers, driver of a B Double in Australia sits on right side) .

As lights go green, I move off ahead of the obviously slower semi, only to hear after about 10 secs a double blast on his airhorns. As I look back in my door mounted rear view mirror to see just what he honking at, I now suddenly see I have left a set of keys on top of the car bodywork, just near the front corner of the trunk. Without stopping, I was just able to reach back and grab them with an outstretched hand. The Semi now about 70 metres behind gives a short blast on his airhorns as I give him a thank you arm wave.

The keys had been there for about 5 miles, maybe 15mins of driving - when I went out of the house, I took my TBird keys and those to the 71 El Camino, as I unsure if TBird had enough gas. As top was down on Bird, I must have put keys on body as without needing to open any door, I just leaned in and tried the others in the Bird, turned ignition on to see what gas gauge read.

Then I obviously totally forgot the ElC keys. Lucky they had a soft rubber finger tag on them, that must sort of stopped them sliding off.

If they had, what odds how long I would have searched the house etc trying to find them next time I went to use the ElC ??!! Anyone lost keys in a more dumber, less likely to remember way !!??

So there is something to think about when you get a wisecrack - reality is for each one trying to be funny, there are maybe unseen ten times that many who will give you a lucky or helpful break/hand. So two lucky breaks for me - soft rubber tag kept them there a bit, plus a truckie who cared - maybe the third luck, was a car that made him care, rather than him think what a dumb ars.. ?! Gotta love our old cars, our 300s.

Christopher Australia - Anzac Day holiday this weekend, where we remember how in WWI we joined (with New Zealanders) the British, in a totally sad attack at Anzac Cove, the Brits incompetantly expecting the Turks to just flee their homeland in surprise at being attacked !! It is regarded at the birth of our Nation as one, all those lives lost that came from all different parts of our young nation in often heroic bravery that the Turks still honor aussies today - "Lest we Forget" was born that dawn, it one of the remaining 'icons' that still make up Australia.

But the real insult is while filling up the F on the way to a meet a few
years back, The fellow at the pump next to me informed me that "there's
another gas staion about 15 mile down the road on the right If yo need to
re-fill soon"!!

This, as he was pumping into his no-name hog of an SUV!!
