Re: [Chrysler300] Coker 235 75R14 tires & tires in general

With our special needs, you have to use a shop that is willing to work with you to get the best results.
The problem with most shops, someone who doesn't care does the work. Mounts the tire, balances it and adds all the weight the machine says, where it says.
When it gets much over 1 ounce, its best to mark it and then remount the tire 180° around.

Personally, when I was doing special tires, I started with the rim, looking for runout, and balance of the rim without a tire. This saved some time for me.We had a balancer that would give balance for the inside and outside of the wheel. This helped also to make for a better job. I was balancing tires for Acura NSX's which often were driven well over 100 mph, they had to be right.

Be willing to pay a little more and watch what the weight readout is. then see that the tire is repositioned if it seems too much weight.

After finally getting my E on the road a couple of weeks ago, we
determined that 3 out of the 5 tires had problems. All were supposedly
dynamically balanced & Coker was prepared to replace them with American
Classics as they no longer produce their own. The Coker fellow enquired
about the tire & rim run out. I was told the worst of the tires was out
of round by almost an inch, another approximately 1/2", which of course
would account for the poor performance. The installer/ balancer could
not provide the run out info, so after some checking around I took the 3
to the most highly recommended shop. Results were 1 rim had a flat spot
(not visible) and the other 2 tires were able to be balanced properly by
repositioning the tires on the rims, and with lower balance weights. So
now I have 2 that are "very good" and 1 that is "good", the latter will
be the spare. Lesson I learned that may be of use to others is that not
all balancing is equal.
