Re: [Chrysler300] 14" tires

All 300 guys:

It's been interesting watching this thread concerning Coker tires. I have a brand new set on my C300. Now I see there is some talk about wheels. Just a note about Wheelsmith ... and take it for whatever you think it's worth:

I have a street rod in addition to my C300 and a couple of other trinkets. The rod has two different bolt patterns for front and back. When I ordered a set set of Wheelsmith wheels they sent me all four with the same bolt pattern. I had them powder coated, pinstriped, and tires mounted and balanced. Needless to say only two fit on the rod. I called and they confirmed my order, admitted a mistake and sent me two correct wheels. I sent the others back. That's all reasonable up to here. Anybody can make a mistake. My problem is that they refused to credit me a dime for the $160.00 I was out for powder coat, stripes, mounting and balancing for the two non-fitting wheels. They say I should have tried them all on the rod when they came in and before I did anything with them. I wish I had but I think they have a significant responsibility to send me what I order. You make your own decision as to whether I was a dope or if they failed to honor their responsibility. They say they made it right by sending replacements. I know lot's of guys think they are great but I say I'll never do business there again. There are other good options for custom wheels.

Thanks to all for the input on large 14" tires for the 300 L. I appreciate
the insight each of you gave.

To update on what I have found:

Coker has discontinued the Coker 235 75R 14 tire with the 1' whitewall.
They still supply the American Classic 235 75 R 14 with a 1" whitewall. They
expect the next shipment of these tires in May. Of course they don't
believe there is any problem with these tires and the representative assured me
they would make it right if there were problems.

The largest 14" tire with a 1" whitewall sold by Diamond Back is 215 75 R
  14. They insist that no one makes a 235 75 R 14 tire with a 1" whitewall.
They suggested contacting Wheelsmith or Stockton wheel for a special 15"
wheel that will accept the 14" wheel cover (keeping the original wheel covers is
one of my hangups). They said they could supply these.

I am almost back to square one. However, I am considering going to a bias
ply tire. Coker has an 8.85 14 one inch whitewall tire for $200. This may
  be my best choice.

Thanks again for all your help.
