Re: [Chrysler300] '63 Chrysler 300 Torqueflight rebuild

Hi All,

Thanks for all the suggestions. It sounds like I need to focus on the cable
first to make sure it is adjusted correctly.

One thing I forgot to mention is the trans mechanic told me that at least
one or two major components (drum/shaft ?) in 1963 were not a very good
design. There were some rings that went around the outside of the shaft and
this design was improved in later years. I think he said that he was going
to substitute some of the later model parts in the '63 trans to improve the
performace and reliability. I was a little skeptical about switching
components since it shifted well when I brought it in. The only problem I
was seeing is it would stay in reverse when I backed out of my driveway when
the engine was cold. I told the guy to clean the valve body to solve the
'reverse sticking' problem. However, he convinced me that some of the other
parts may be worn out. The new 413 runs very strong and the trans is fine,
but I really remember a harder shift from 1st to 2nd gear. BTW, I used Type
F fluid. Maybe I am making something out of nothing, but everyone of us
knows how their 300 shifts and when they get back a rebuilt trans and it
shifts differently, I guess it is normal to ask "why'?
Regards,
Mark Lindahl
