RE: [Chrysler300] Factory Air C300 on Ebay

Gil:

Thanks for the update. I assume it was originally a Platinum-colored car. The interior pictures seem to suggest that it is an original C-300 with proper beige leather seats and black and beige dash and steering wheel. The 150 mph speedometer is out of the dash, but goes with the car. Can anyone confirm when “secret VIN’s” began to be engraved/stamped in hidden places on the chassis’ of American cars? SAR!

All:
This C300, 3N55 1723, has been in the Club VIN list since about 1990. It
was NOT originally equipped with air conditioning. On the plus side,
engine no. 3NE55 1708 IS the original for the car.
Hope this clarifies things.
Yes, John, 15 or so digits in fine. Some have a lot more spread, and some
less.

All,

Info from the owner as follows:

Chrysler vin #: 3N551723
Engine #: 3NE551708.

Gil, correct me if I am wrong but for ’55, a difference of roughly 15
digits
in the vin vs. engine is OK. Isn’t it? I am still wagering that it is a
real factory air car....excited to find out.

The intakes are proper for 1955-56 Chrysler coupes and sedans (and
convertibles?) as the factory a/c was in the trunk. I sent the seller a
note this morning asking for clarification/verification of the VIN and
engine s/n. Caveat emptor.

Gil/club,

I have sent a couple of notes to the seller.no reply yet.but it is the
weekend.

Curious about the 'intake' just below and behind the back window on the
driver's side. For aftermarket, they would not have fabricated the a/c
intakes, would they?? I think it would have been an under dash unit.

Thoughts?

All:

The number given as the VIN is actually the engine number (has the "E" in
it). It certainly could also be the number on the title, as some states did
it that way.

Some member who is interested in the car needs to ask the owner what the
number is on the driver's door post. That, of course, is the actual VIN,
from which we could determine if it came with factory air. A few C300s did.
Note that the seller is also unsure re: dealer vs factory AC.

This car is a new serial to my files. I suspect the owner that has one of
every year stated by the seller is Don Petty. I'd have to look at my file
regarding the A/C and I don't have that handy at the moment.

The term "Batwing" is incorrect and should be stated as "Deltawing", but
this goes along with many "experts" talking about the Kelsey Hays wire
wheels directly from the factory.

Pretty neat find I think. It is a factory air equipped C300. Vin is
3NE551708. Needs complete resto but has the batwing (according to the
seller). Car is in Wisconsin. Here is a link to the Ebay page:

http://tinyurl.com/3lveaow

And the item number:

320767316687

At $6,500 no reserve. (I would think the batwing and carbs are worth
not-too-far south of that).

Would be fun to see this one brought back to life!

Enjoy your weekend, everybody.
