Re: [Chrysler300] 1956 300B: Maintenance and Parts Questions

Hi Jim,
#1
I believe you are looking at the transmission cooler. It will have two lines coming out of it and will bolt to the engine. Hot Heads may have these as they probably don't use them on there rebuilds.
#2
If there is really no fluid in the rear end, I would want to take the chuck out and look at it. That would also be a good time to change the axle seals and check the bearings.
#3
Andy Burnbaum had the shoes at one time. If not, I may have a usable set.
#4 Only a screen in the power flite and 56-61 torqueflite (56 screen is different from the rest).
#5 Not sure about the adapter, but the picture might not be accurate. I would call and ask. Bob Walker is pretty helpful.
300ly,

  Hello to all;

I'm going through the mechanicals on my 300B, a recent purchase. Have following questions.

I started by draining all fluids as car has sat a number of years.

  1. Need help with "coolant reservoir/tank/flask/muffler" or whatever you call it. Took radiator out to get it boiled out. The "flask" that lower radiator hose goes to is unusable. Paper thin and some bad past repairs.

Can anyone provide correct name for this coolant unit? Is there a source or is this part strictly available from the junk yards?

  2. Drained the rear end, or tried too. One small blob came out like a marble and doesn't even spread out on the garage floor. Any idea of how to flush or what to use to get this old goop out?

  3. Park/hand/emergency brake. Nothing left of the shoes on this brake. Are they available anywhere? Or a rebuild service?

  4. I'll be replacing pan gasket on tranny as it's leaking. I understand there's only a screen, no filter in tranny (2 speed a/t). Is that correct?
What is the correct replacement tranny fluid to use as I'm getting different stories from my parts guys.

  5. Has anyone used the "HotHeads" oil filter adapter. I'd like to run a modern filter and before I order adapter wondering if the actually fit the 354 as it looks like (from the HH pictures) the vertical adapter would interfere with bellhousing.

More coming as I get into the car. Thanks for all the past replies and help.

  Thank You in Advance
