I like my Garmin, much better than the factory GPS in our BMW's, but it proved useless in downtown San Fran with all the interference of tall buildings. (Kept losing the satellite signal which confused the unit) Wished then that I had a map as backup!

The way I see it, I'd rather not pay for a factory unit that will be obsolete in a couple years and cost thousands to buy and update. The cheapest GPS units at Costco are superior to anything you'll get from the factory and you can take them with you on vacation or plug them into your classic car if need be. If it gets stolen because you left it in plain sight in your car, buy another one.
