Once again, it is "DELTAWING".........................

ECK, Elmer Karl Kiekhaefer is credited for developing the dry air filter.

Hello 300 Fans,

The cars had oil bath aircleaners, the famous "Batwing", we all know and love. Very early in competition at Daytona Beach, the cars began to be "drowned out" when the violent turns off the beach, up and over the dunes to get to the paved route A-1A, put oil from the air cleaner down the intake. The paper aircleaner was ""cobbled" from two trash can covers filled with rolls of toilet paper by Carl K.'s pit crew. So what did they look like ? - I have never seen a photo of one of those. How quickly was something better constructed using that new knowledge - again I don't know, and I suspect very few are alive today to answer that question. Any one know? Perhaps we should ask Vicky Wood what she remembers at the Joint Meet in PA. I can't attend, so someone, Please Ask !

My personal guess is it is a later item put on when the New Yorker engine went in. My Two Cents.

All the Best 300ing,
