Re: [Chrysler300] Re: hood hinge repair

I think you are both right... DO NOT LUBE the springs. There used to be a place that rebuilt them with new rivets and it might have been listed on our sources page. John, those I sent you were tight and worked well, didn't they? They were old, dry and never lubed.

I heard that story too . But more or less friction in hinge does not change the need to balance the hood . Just factually incorrect . In fact making the hinge work better lets the hood  fall easier
unless i am missing something

I emailed the company asking about heavy duty springs. They never made them. Replied that hood spring problems are due to wear in the holes where the rivets are pressed, so they need to be repaired, not heavy duty hood springs

Regarding the hood hinge repair,
perhaps you refer to

I believe they were all the same, and all woefully inadequate. I
think they were the same basic design as the Windsor and NYer, which
were lighter hoods by comparison. There was a company that rebuilt
hood hinges and tightened up the rivets/joints, as well as provided
stronger springs. I think they advertised in Hemmings, which is where
I originally found them around a decade or so ago.
