Re: [Chrysler300] Heater / Defrost Switch - 1962 300

Hi ,
Sometimes the nipples can clog with dust or dirt drawn in . Maybe run a rubber line from vacuum port on engine direct to cans see if it works . Also there is a grease like stuff in there sometimes . Taking apart switch to fix cams would clean it out . Are cams tight ( one button comes out when you push another , actions all equal ?)  Mity vac might help measure vacuum at cans . ( compared to direct engine line ) . Vacuum pump might be stronger? Have seen lines split but you would have found that .
All it is inside is a flat plastic plate that slides with grooves that connect various outlets . If not clogged and buttons work , ? kind of mystery .
That said can rebuild switch , cams , but not sure this problem is switch . Weird .
Just ss you say any drop in vacuum level or leak
will stop it . Check levels  w mity vac ?

Hi Group,

The vents in my 62 as well as the defrost etc. do not work. The electrics work fine. I've tested the vacuum dash pots (3) and they work and hold vacuum and operate the rods correctly when using a vacuum pump. I've tested the vacuum lines for leaks and they all hold vacuum. There is vacuum at the engine and that line is good as well. That leaves the actual dash assembly. All the nipples are in good condition. I was wondering if it is possible that the internals of the plastic mechanism could leak vacuum internally. Has anyone had a similar problem or is there something else I've overlooked. I know that this switch can have the nipples rebuilt, but mine seem OK. If it is the internals of the switch, is it able to be rebuilt? or do I need to source another switch. Thanks, Charlie in Ottawa
