Re: [Chrysler300] Macungie, Hard Luck Award?

Hi Ron, About 8 years ago I read A article about a filter that truckers use
in Australia. It was a Clear filter that goes in the upper Radiator hose.
You could see if your coolant was dirty. If it was you could remove the
filter , Clean it and replace it. It was fairly expensive.

Now at that time I was having a Heating problem with my Superbird
overheating, Which they are known to do.

So I removed the Radiator and took my Garden Hose and back flushed it. Then
I took apiece of plywood about the size of the Radiator, Laid the Radiator
on it then took a 2nd piece of plywood and laded on top. Then took a
vibration sander with no sand paper and started shaking the Radiator
Sandwich. to help break some of the scale in the tubes loose. Then back
flushed the Radiator again. I did all this on a tarp so I could see what
came out. I was really surprised how much junk that came out.
After I put the Radiator back in, I left the upper radiator for last. Now
for my secret. I took a piece of window screen and rolled it around a screw
driver handle then slipped it into the upper inlet and slowly workede it
around inside the radiator. Then the part that sticks out I just Took a pair
of Scissors and trimmed of the excess of. Then put the Hose on.. Then
after replacing the Coolant I took the car out for a 10 mile drive. When I
got back I let the engine cool down. Then removed the upper hose and slid
the screen out. I was shocked. The screen cought about 1/3 a cup og Crap.
So after cleaning the screen I took the car out for another 10 mile trip.
Came back and removed the hose again now there was a much smaller amount
,But more than I wanted, So I did it a 3rd. time and it was almost free of
any junk. Now you stop and think, This was coming from the Block and the
heater core. Now I leave it in all the time.

Later that year I built the engine in my 426 Dodge. And did the same thing
and also got the same results. So this tells me You can take your Radiator
out and Have it cleaned, new Cored or replaced and as soon as tou start the
Engine you are taking all the junk out of tour cooling system and dumping
right back in your new clean radiator.
Buy the time I was done I caught almost a full cup of Junk from each Car.

                                                          Works for me.

Hello, all:

The water jackets in the engine blocks (361 in my Newport and the 413s in my
Ks and E) were loaded with casting sand, rust and other nasty stuff to the
point where water could not circulate around the internal cylinder walls.
The blocks were out of the cars and thoroughly dried. I managed to get rid
of most of the stuff by scraping with a host of tools and vacuuming through
the freeze-plug holes. In one case boiling the block had little effect.

Someone may have a technique to clean out the block while it is still in the
car. If so, I (and most likely others) would like to know of it.

Best,
Ron Kurtz

       Hoping
to win the Hard Luck Award this year so that no one else has
a worse story. Team Kreszock/Jett made it but 60 miles
from Boone NC when the 300Kreszock overheated big time.
Since the Carlisle trial of the heat removing program had
earned a meager D+, when back in Boone we removed the
radiator and flushed, replaced the water pump, added Water
Wetter, new radiator cap, and on and on. All was going
very well on the trip to PA until the belt adjusting pulley
froze and ate the fan belt. That part is not available at
NAPA. The car is parked in Marion NC and will be retrieved
after the meet. So good that Martha and Sandy were
following in modern Jeep. See you very soonLarry W Jett
