RE: [Chrysler300] Macungie, Hard Luck Award?

I suggest fabricating a little bent tube to be placed at the hose-end of a high pressure washer.  This can be inserted and rotated 360 degrees to blast crud wherever it has accumulated.   The block should be rotated to allow the loosened crud to flow out of the block.  It may be possible to add a little inhibited acid or surfactant to the system to help break down the compacted crud.  The same principle is used by Halliburton and other pumping companies to clean the barnacles and crud from refinery and other process plant piping.  You wouldn’t believe the results.  Disposal of the crud becomes a challenge.  You don’t want to know.

This may be the overpriced filter gizmo:  http://www.amazon.com/Scott-Drake-ACC-GANO-8-Radiator-Coolant/dp/B00FGSN7Q0           or, this one—even moreso:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Top-or-Bottom-Radiator-Hose-Filter-That-Stops-Radiator-Blockages-HOT-ROD-MUST-/191173873594

I seem to recall a smaller, cheaper disposable filter that would be easily installed on a heater hose.  Just like a fuel filter, only larger.  Googling produced a number of hits for spin-on coolant filter cans indicating that some serious filtration is going on somewhere—probably on big trucks and maybe military vehicles.  To me, they make a lot of sense.  We used bypass filters on large industrial engines to keep crud from accumulating in the water jackets and aerial JW coolers.  Makes sense, but can uglify the underhood appearance.  An inline filter on a heater hose could be installed and easily changed out for OEM date-coded hose for judged shows.

Cleanliness is next to 300-ness, I guess.

Hello, all:

The water jackets in the engine blocks (361 in my Newport and the 413s in my Ks and E) were loaded with casting sand, rust and other nasty stuff to the point where water could not circulate around the internal cylinder walls. The blocks were out of the cars and thoroughly dried. I managed to get rid of most of the stuff by scraping with a host of tools and vacuuming through the freeze-plug holes. In one case boiling the block had little effect.

Someone may have a technique to clean out the block while it is still in the car. If so, I (and most likely others) would like to know of it.

Best,
Ron Kurtz

Hoping
to win the Hard Luck Award this year so that no one else has
a worse story.  Team Kreszock/Jett made it but 60 miles
from Boone NC when the 300Kreszock overheated big time.
Since the Carlisle trial of the heat removing program had
earned a meager D+, when back in Boone we  removed the
radiator and flushed, replaced the water pump, added Water
Wetter, new radiator cap, and on and on.  All was going
very well on the trip to PA until the belt adjusting pulley
froze and ate the fan belt.  That part is not available at
NAPA.  The car is parked in Marion NC and will be retrieved
after the meet.  So good that Martha and Sandy were
following in modern Jeep.  See you very soonLarry W Jett
