Whenever you are working with refrigerants please wear glasses with side shields, or better yet googles. When I was in college we were doing lab experiments to measure enthalpy and heat transfer. Before we started playing with the equipment, one of the university’s lab rat staff’s job was to show us the importance of wearing proper eye wear when working around high pressure refrigerants. He was using pig’s eyes as a tool to reinforce the effect of a leak in the system spraying liquid refrigerant out. We all watched as the liquid boiled off the surface of the eye. The result is quite spectacular and one could only guess what it would do to your vision under similar circumstances.
