RE: [Chrysler300] Engine Oil - High Zinc Conventional 10w-30,

All should remember that the zinc additive level drops in the oil as it is plated on valves, guides and other engine parts—and blasted out the exhaust.  The exhaust content is why it was dropped for use in vehicles with catalytic converters for real or imagined “killing” the catalyst.  Same reason tetraethyl lead was banned from gasoline.  Ultimate protection might be to add a thimbleful every “X” miles.  Our 300K would like some of both.

I add a bottle of "Cam-Shield" ZDDP at each oil change. It comes in a "one-shot" 1.5 oz‎ container and they sell them in a box of twelve. I forgot what I paid but it wasn't too bad, as I recall. I've heard the Gibbs oil is good and Hemmings also sells several oil products with zinc.

Subject: [Chrysler300] Engine Oil - High Zinc Conventional 10w-30,

Last week we enter our 1957 300C in the WPC National Meet in Tacoma, WA. It was a great meet well attended and many beautiful cars. Trev Dellinger of Seattle entered the one only  “ 1970 Chrysler 300 Hurst Convertible”  made, which he recently purchased.

One of our members suggested using the High Zinc Conventional 10w-30 oil “Joe Gibbs Driven HR-2 Conventional High Performance Motor Oil” in our 1957 300C. For years I have been using Valvoline Racing Oil SAE 30 which is not made any more. I have only enough left for one more oil change.

Have any of you used Joe Gibbs Oil? I am looking forward to using  it. What do you think?
