RE: [Chrysler300] 413 Welch plugs

It looks like Summit sells the Melling MEP-14 that should be a disc type 1 5/8 for the block. I'll order a set and find out. Also available in brass. This does not however solve my problem of finding the plug for behind the camshaft that I understand is a Welch plug also. Any leads on that would be appreciated.

Thanks, John, for your input.

I installed the plugs several years ago. They are holding up. My '64 Newport was a project car, to be sure my 300E would get the best equipment and parts. I am not going for points. But, I am a believer in doing what is right in my restorations. Can you send me a source where I can get the correct plugs?

Best,

I think to do this right you have
to machine the block to remove the lip the flat stock discs
sit on . Just putting GM style cups in the holes does not
work correctly . They need to go in flush all the way .
Maybe you did this machining? If not they will not grab as
designed .precision size of hole too ?
I am
a big believer in the hot heads aluminum plugs held with a
stainless steel bolt and toggle bolt like strap . This
cannot come out . The bolts from hot heads are slightly too
short aggravating putting them in , unbelievably so , inside
parts can drop into water jacket . You are done for . I had
a bare block got the toggle bar out of top of block. Get 1/4
longer bolts . Made for 392 , may be same size as B , and a
bolt in . The o ring sits on the block lip. Which must be
clean . lost a disc one on first trip on 392 ,huge hassle
you get 2 minutes to boiling in head. very tricky to get
in right with stock , but stock works. A skill issue . No
one does this in 2017, they do not have the experience . But
stock rusts too . On heads maybe cups are a good answer ?
Machining them anyway at a rebuild.
Bottom
line hot heads bolt in plugs end this problem on block.
And can be done without machining . Need to check if 413?and
392 same size . A good machinist can make this too . John G
