RE: [Chrysler300] Recommendations for 300F exhaust

Interested readers will find this article and tables to be a good explanation of magnetic and non-magnetic stainless steel.  The non-magnetic SS contains molybdenum and more nickel in addition to chrome which gives it exceptional corrosion resistance.  Magnetic SS may be easier to form, machine and weld.  Take a little magnet to different things you think or are marked SS.  Some are and some are not magnetic.  https://tinyurl.com/y9q2z7ja  Each has many applications.  More on the two most common SS’s used in mufflers:  https://tinyurl.com/ycxlqk57                     The more expensive SS 304 may discolor under high heat.  SS 409 is cheaper but may corrode if exposed to salt.  Waldron’s offers both alloys with the 304 being polished and price on request—probably for trailer queens that we might call “over-restored”.

Years ago I paid big bucks for stainless and as I was bragging to the installer, he put a magnet on the "stainless" and it gripped like a tick.  Took months to get the difference rebated to me.  TRUST but VERIFY
