I also have the stock dual points on our  1957 300C. I agree with Don Cole. The 300  always starts with no problems. I like to keep it stock like it came from the factory.

Just my 2 cents. I have had my Ram K for 37 years and have the stock distributer still in the car. As some of our members know my car runs pretty good.. I had Don Verity check out the distributer on his 

Sun distributer machine and he adjusted what was needed. I’m for keeping it stock because the company seems to know what they are doing. Car still runs like new.

I cannot comment on the older Pertronix set ups, other than the fact that they don’t seem to need a special coil.

As for the Igniter III: It requires the use of the Igniter III coil; which supplies 45,000 volts and has an ultra low resistance of 0.32 ohms. I chose the mechanical advance distributor; because I had read a review where the author said that the vacuum advance distributor did not match the stock advance curve. You can purchase an adjustable vacuum advance unit for that distributor; but the reviewer claimed it was too finicky to adjust properly. The Igniter III distributor has a roller bearing for the shaft, and you can set the internal rev. limiter. The unit comes with various advance springs and advance limiter arms. Pertronix claims that it is possible to dial in 78 different advance curves. My car has zero drivability issues right out of the box. To John Grady’s point, Pertronix wants you to supply full voltage to the coil, without using the ballast resistor. I had installed a brand new engine wiring harness; so I didn’t want to start hacking it up. I also had to supply 12 volts to the electric chokes. I resolved the problem by installing 3 way brass connectors at the ballast. They have a female end and two male branches. I jumped a heavy gauge wire across the ballast and used the spare terminals for the chokes. The Igniter III will not work with an analog electric tachometer; which means that you need a digital timing light and tachometer to work on the car. Thanks for your time, I realize that I am commenting on non stock items; which brings me to my last point. Does anyone have a pair of 3505s carbs. they want to sell.?

It would be helpful if someone in the know would answer these questions:

* What is the difference between Pertronics I, II and III? 
* Which is most appropriate for our 413's (with & without rams)?
* Is it necessary or advisable to replace the coil?  
* If so, is there a specification for the new coil?
* Is the start/run configuration including the ballast resistor retained or modified?
* Is the vacuum advance retained?
* Is it advisable to carry a spare?
* Is there a Pertronics wiring diagram available online?

Separate issue: Can vacuum advance cans be rebuilt? If so, who does it?

I have no idea if the Ebay sample is of good quality, but my recent experiences with Pertronix units suggest to me that it's an excellent conversion if your distributor is in good condition. The unit enables you to retain all of the original appearance except that there will be 2 wires from the coil to the distributor instead of only one.

In the past I've heard of some reliability issues with those for some applications, but I believe that those problems (if they existed) have been appropriately addressed.

In any case I do recommend that you replace the vacuum advance diaphragm if it is more than 8 years old. It's not a lot of fun to dig deep enough to do distributor work on most of our 300s. I converted my '55 12 years ago (also a 12volt electrical conversion) using a MOPAR conventional electronic system that included a distributor from a 318 engine (slightly modified for hemi instal), an added ballast resistor, and the ignition electronic control unit all removed from a 70s vintage Dodge pickup. It has been trouble-free for me for 30k miles, but because of the simplicity of the Pertronix system that is what I would use if I were doing the conversion today.
