I agree with you. In the 1971, I had to replace two of the 14”x 6 1/2”wheels on our 1957 300C which developed cracks in the rim under the bead resulting in a slow leak (7/1/1971 & 12/17/71). We were on our way home from South Dakota by way of Yellowstone Park, in Idaho we aired up several times and then finally had the wheel with tire put in a water tank and found the rim was cracked. Six months later while home another wheel had to be replaced. The 300C had the old belted tires which results in a very hard ride compered to radials.

Rims are very much a safety aspect.  I find no reason to use 60 year old rims.  If you find new, specially ordered do not hesitate to use these.  

 For those of you who chase old 6.5in 14 wheels dont forget to look at rusty wagon wheels.

Murray Park has the 14 x 6 ½” wheels in stock as I just spoke to him about them.
