I was once told that the biggest guys in Detroit were trained and equipped with huge rubber-headed sledge-mallets so that they could apply just the right amount of “careful force” to doors—without damaging the sheet metal or paint. We often don’t realize how poor the parts fit from the factory until we try to put them back together. Also, a door being worked on a table or rack can get twisted or distorted. Sometimes careful force is required to get them where they need to be in conjunction with adjustments of the hinges, strikers, and all the other body panels. Ryan Hill
