Re: {Chrysler 300} 1962 300 Sport - Astradome Fun

Matt,
I have 2 spare domes that are not mint but not cracked and could probably be polished to work. I'll send you one if you like.

Yep.
This was is an older Jeff Carter restoration.
Have another 150mph JC Auto restored entire cluster; waiting to go into my H.

I need to send Jeff a pair of 7-button, foot switch radios to restore & will ask if they have a dome to sell me.
Thanks

If you’d like your speedo to look and operate as new, send it to Jeff Carter.  Here’s a pic of the one he just restored for me:

Today my kid & I decided to pull the Astradome out, as the Speedometer pointer was stuck at 15mph.

3 things happened:
  • 1. When pulling the Steering Wheel off…one must try too stuff the horn wire down in the steering column; so that the steering wheel puller can seat on top of the steering shaft.  Of course that horn wire is now 59 years old; so it is prone to split & break.  Does anyone have any helpful hints on what to do with that wire to get it down into the shaft simply? Or it is just a pain?
  • 2. Once the Dome was removed…my kid dropped it on the driveway; thus adding a San Andreas Fault crack in the polished & clear Dome.  Oh Yay!  Don’t have a spare dome.  Oh yay.
  • 3. Reassembled it all & now the Speedometer works again

Damn that Astradome is a pain to disassemble; but looks great day & night!

Thanks!
Matt Allyn
