55 c300 convt. could this car have been a chrysler corp. show car in 1955? I believe the car chrysler put in the new york show in 1954 . they said it was only 3 made. the man that bought the car found the other 2? when he painted it there were 2 more colors under top paint. chrysler showed the car in 3 shows and painted it a different color for each show. what is the vin number on this 55 c300 convertable

Yes, the wiring is a little ratty as it would be if original fabric-wrapped wires.

The battery is a 12-Volt but the generator is or was originally a 6-Volt.  Perhaps B-generator guts and Voltage regulator?

The car does not seem to have the narrow little 300-only SS trim piece below the grilles and above the bumper.

Strange little vacuum line feeding the MC and heading into the cabin for???

VIN was not shown in the pix I pirated last July from a Facebook page.

Styling is still beautiful.  Coulda, shoulda, wasn’t.  Point was well made on rarity of ’55 NY & Windsor rags.

Kind of amazing that they would go thru all that trouble, but not replace the wiring harness. Also, isn't that a 12V battery in there ?

I understand that there is no record of any C-300 or 300-B convertibles being produced at the factory.  Newport and New Yorker convertibles were made both years and some have been modified with 300 sheet metal, speedometer, leather seating, bumpers and trim-even period correct engines with Delta Wing air cleaners.  Most owners/sellers fully disclose they are not authentic but some may be promoted as factory issue to the ignorant.

That’s why we have these meetings. It is also possible to cut the top off of a factory 300 and graft on the convertible parts—thus initiating much sturm und drang amongst the cognoscenti.  I have lots of pictures of an example that looks the part, including the 150 MPH speedometer and Delta wing air cleaner.  The VIN tag of an authentic C-300 would begin with 3N55 and be spot-welded to the driver’s door jamb.  I’ve read that the Kiekhaefer race team would cut the top off of a 300 coupe so it could run in a NASCAR convertible race.  Their coupes were reportedly built on convertible frames for strength.

Buyer beware.
