Re: {Chrysler 300} 1959 300 E Starting up cold ….pumping gas

We have an electric pump on our F and it helps a lot with those dual quads after the car has been sitting

I thought the first response was going to be, “install a small electric fuel pump”. This seems to be a preferred method for a lot of members to refill the bowls before cranking.

I personally like to let it crank a bit before firing if it’s been sitting. I’d rather get some oil moving and splashing.

There will be differing views. You can fill each carb bowl with gasoline to avoid grinding the starter pumping fuel. This is the best way to start a car that has not run in a while. Bob has a recent video reviving a sleepy engine, which shows you just how easy it is.

But most of us don't bother.  We're married to our regimen and only too happy to tell others.

For most of my cars I do this:

Without touching the pedal I crank to the count of 8. Then I set the chokes and hit the pedal for 9 pump shots. Then I wait till the count of 9. This lets the fuel vapors coalesce in the intake and get happy.
Then I throw the lightening and they start every time.

Subject: {Chrysler 300} 1959 300 E Starting up cold ….pumping gas

I have only had my 300 E for three months or so…it takes quite some time
to get the gas going into the carbs…I have 2 four barrel carbs which takes forever
to become full of gas so it will start.
I am seeking advice on the best procedure in starting to speed up the process.
I pump the gas pedal three or four times before I start cranking the starter…
is it better to pump while cranking or before. Any advice would be appreciated.
Yes once it has run for a while it starts right up easily.
