RE: {Chrysler 300} Compression Test - 413

Try an old school remedy. Your 62 has had long periods of sitting without running one could presume. So its valves or rings that could be caked up or frozen.

The old school method was to pour a quart of ATF down the carb of a up to temp engine, opening the throttle so it doesn’t stall. Then take your car out on the highway for a long drive accelerating hard to blow the carbon out. Hope you don’t have close neighbors!

Second and more modern method is use a can of MOPAR top end cleaner. Many guys testify positively about this with before and after pics posted online.

I have done both and had very good results! I think the former will soak into the piston rings a lot better, but I have no proof.

There is nothing wrong with those readings…

Because it was so nice & cool outside today, here in So. Cal….

I decided to run a compression test on my 1962 413, aged, motor.

I know I should have done it after the motor was warmed up; but I did it cold, so this may be a fail.

I found the findings interesting, just the same:

DRIVERS:

1 - 150

3 - 155

5 - 170

7 - 150

PASSENGER:

2 - 145

4 - 150

6 - 170

8 - 130

Things are not looking up for this old block!

I reckon it's time to pull it out & refresh it.

Now it’s time for a drink!
