Re: {Chrysler 300} Question on installing spring clips for nose letters on my 1959 300 E

Put the clip on the S and work it gently into the groove.  When you have a slight purchase on the groove established ( meaning it can support the S without falling away) either apply force directly straight into the hole by your fingers or a gentle tap with a small rubber mallet. It needs to be a snug fit.I do not advise using any WD 40 or silicon lubricant because they can reduce essential friction between the S tong and the clip.  Hope this helps.  It is always a patient maneuver that for some reason I have to be by myself to finagle them in without bending the tong on the back of the letters or losing the clip.  Hope this helps!  300’ly, Rob Kern

Subject: {Chrysler 300} Question on installing spring clips for nose letters on my 1959 300 E

Hello 300 Group

About three months ago after a nice Sunday drive I discovered my LETTER
“S” on the hood nose of my 300 had disappeared.  I suspect it just fell out.
I was able to find a replacement S from the Quigly company. It is
not chromed…but it will do. Then I learned I needed a set of spring clips
to properly attach it.  I was able to get the spring clips…a set of 8!
Now the challenge of how to properly install it? I tried putting it in the hole
and gently tapping the clip. This did not work adequately. Then I tried
attaching it first to the post of the letter and gently tapping that into
the hole. This resulted in the post on the letter bending. Any advice on how
to properly install my new letter.  I did think about using adhesive….
however the proximity to the radiator leads me to believe an adhesive will fail due to the heat.
I will be grateful for some good advice?
Here’s a few photos….

Thanks.
Rob
