Re: {Chrysler 300} 300K Ram Brakes Fixed!

The FSM has these hints for brake bleeding.

Back off the adjusters to the full release.
Bleed in this sequence:
Right rear
Left rear
right front lower
right front upper
left front lower
left front upper

For ram cars with their remote booster, I copied this: “Caution, do not apply more than 25 psi to the bleeder tank. Open the inlet bleeder screw of the booster (closest to the master cylinder) and permit the fluid to run until free of air bubbles. Open the outlet bleeder screw and allow the fluid to run until free of air bubbles. Bleed the wheel cylinders in the following sequence: Left front, right rear, right front, and left rear.”

Hope this helps.
Bob

Thanks Nick, I took a gamble and purchased the Motive Products - 0101 Brake System Power Bleeder 3" Round Adapter.  It is on Amazon for $62.90. It was a gamble because I wasn't sure how well the 3" adapter would fit and seal on the master cylinder but I had no issues. It does use a small chain and Hook system to tighten down the adapter on the master cylinder and some reviews noted issues with this method but I had none. Just took my time and followed the steps noted in the instructions. The 64 service manual noted not to pressurize the system past 25 PSI. I only went to 20 psi

I don't have any experience with the dual wheel cylinder cars to offer any suggestions but hope you get the problem resolved soon as I do understand how frustrating this can be!

Mike,

What tool are you using to pressure bleed with? We're having trouble getting any pedal on a 1961 Belvedere. Tried vacuum bleeding and the good ole foot method. This is a simple system with no booster but does have the dual wheel cylinders in the front. Today we're going back to square one and start with bench bleeding the master cylinder.

I've been keeping my eye out for a vintage pressure bleeder that has the set up for our single master cylinders.

Glad you got the issue with your ram K resolved. I've been following along to see what happened.

Nick.

I had posted back in May having brake problems on the K after having the remote booster rebuilt by Power Brake Exchange in Pittsburgh PA, I tried all the different suggestions offered and continued to have the same issue having brakes when the car first starts up, but after a couple of stops the brakes would not hold. My frustration set back in and the car sat over the summer. In Sept I decided to tackle the issue once again. I considered taking the booster back to Power Brake Exchange but decided against it.

Since there was not any other re-builders that are relatively close to me I nervously decided I would have to send the booster to the west coast. I check with Booster Dewy in Oregon. I gave them the background and they said they would have to get back with me after checking with their re-builder. Never heard back.

Then I reached out to Karps Power Brake Service in Chino,CA. Jeff said that they would be able to test the booster before disassembly and let me know. So I decided to send the booster to Karps. Two weeks went by and I received a call from Jeff. He said that while testing the booster it was working but acting funny. They disassembled the booster and found that one of the seals / o-ring in the slave cylinder did not appear right. He felt that this was allowing pressurized brake fluid to leak back towards the master cylinder. They replace the seal/o-ring in question, checked out the rest of the booster and shipped it back.

Today I was able to get out to the garage and reinstall the booster, pressure bled the system and crossed my fingers.

Now I have brakes that hold!  Thanks to Jeff at Karps, And it just in time to put the car away for the upcoming winter!
