{Chrysler 300} Muggy Weld

Michael -

What did you use to melt the Muggy Weld ? On the 55 Chrysler/Desoto vent wing frame, there is a pot metal extension piece used to anchor the assembly in place. This piece, shown in attached photo, sometimes snaps in half. I may try Muggy Weld to reattach that.

I used Muggy Weld Pot Metal Solder on my 300G tail light bezels to attach that vertical piece that is usually broken off and fill pit holes. I had them rechomed and on the car for over 5 years and they are fine.  I practiced on some junk parts first; you have to be careful not to overheat the pot metal because it will melt. I believe they have instructions on their website and maybe some videos.

He did not tell me how he “welded” this and kept it as a secret (because everyone says it’s impossible..).
Sorry can’t provide any further information…

When your guy said 'weld', I think he meant solder. From what I understand, silver soldering is the way to fill pits. There is also an alloy that is advertised as Muggy Weld. I never investigated it, so I don't know if it is effective or not.

Hey Folks,

Greetings from Germany!
I had the same problem a few years ago and found real good ones with the help of the Club (thanks again!), and I needed both sides as my old ones were broken.

When I took the new ones to my Chrome guy I also took along the old ones, rather accidentally - and he said he could weld them !?!?
I could NOT believe that (because usually nobody welds this kind of junk metal  = Zinkdruckguß = zinc diecasting)
Well he didn’t weld my bezels so far (I keep them on stock just in case) but he welded an chromed my horn ring (broken 3 times) made of the same material and it looks like new.
Of course I don’t know how strong this work is - and maybe my ring once will break when some stupid driver is in front of me and I have to honk him real hard…)
But the car still isn’t back on the road….

What I want to say: maybe you DON’T throw away your old broken bezels because they are rare as hell, gather some and send them over to Germany if there is interest.
In this case I could ask for the repair price with chroming-  but this guy is not cheap….

Once installed I can imagine these bezels don’t have to suffer much forces  and should stay in one piece

Have a nice weekend,
Kai
