As we say over here, that sounds dodgy! Maybe Escrow have changed their rules since I used them. May depend on who is responsible for shipping? I was the one paying for it to be picked up, plus it was going overseas. I don’t see how the seller could be responsible in that case. Your friend should get a written copy of their current policies to see if it is right for him.

A friend is going to try that with a car he's selling but they told him the funds won't be released until the car gets delivered and the buyer approves. But the buyer is responsible for the return shipping if they don't like it.

Just a heads up. I have seen forged certified checks. I only take them if I am standing with the buyer at their bank when they are drawn up. But even that does not guarantee they are good if the money was deposited to that account from another chained fraudulent check.

Cash at their bank or money wired to your account. For an expensive car, like aircraft, use an escrow account. That way the car does not get released for 15 days to make sure that the issuing bank cannot pull back the money.

Has anybody heard from a John A. Waters? He says he's interested in my "L". He is not in the club registry. He doesn't quite write well. No phone number and no address. Wants to send me a certified check. Asked about my address.

I asked him to send me his phone number and address so that I may send him photos. That may have spooked him for he did not reply.

How did he find out about my ad?

Just being careful.
