Re: {Chrysler 300} Trans ID

I have your old 300L (bought it from Bob) and it has the slip joint with the double u-joint.

I have had several 65 Chryslers. None had the

I know all 66 up had them.

As far as I know, and every '65 automatic trans I've ever seen, were all cable shifted and had a regular U-joint with a slip flange.

The cable shifted cars in 1965 could have used a column shift or the console. shift. The trans for both would be the same.

According to my research the cables to rod change was made sometime mid model year 1965. All the other changes like the change from a flange to the slip happened at the same time.

Not being an expert on 1965 cars, that is why I am asking. The push button and the console cars used different valve bodies.

What I am trying to nail down is if there is a way to ID which is which without opening it up.

James, maybe I’m missing something here? 1965 300’s did not come with push button trans. Cable shifted console and column shift only for all C-bodies. I believe it was 1966 they went to the hard linkage and did away with the cables.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to ID if a 727 trans is a cable shift versus a console shift from the outside?

I have a trans that is an EARLY 1965 spare. Rail number  F2466112 1587547 which should mean Flint Wednesday December 1st 1965.

This in the MPB shows as an early 1965 383-413 with 4-BBL.

It is a flange not a yoke type. I understand they did a mod-year change from flange to yoke.

I would like to know if it was a console versus a push button without having to open it up.

Thanks, James
