Re: {Chrysler 300} Auto Transport Co

I've only had three cars shipped to me. My 300F was shipped from north eastern Washington state to San Diego using Reliable. They handled it well although the car itself wasn't properly prepared by the seller which gave him trouble. But not damage.

The second car was my 1960 NY wagon, that was a non-running car. I did use a broker that came highly recommended but the actual transporter was not the greatest. He was not happy with the size and weight of the car and the fact that it wasn't running. He wasn't supposed to take it off until it got to my house but it started out on the top and when he got to my house it was on the bottom. The front bumper got snagged on his trailer and bent the bumper. I actually had to back my brother's pickup truck up onto his trailer to yank the car out since his winch wasn't working right.

The last one was a friend's running 1961 DeSoto that came from Texas. Was supposed to come directly to me again but it showed up on a different trailer than it started out on. The drivers door wasn't latched and flung open when he turned the corner to my house. I wasn't the one who hired them.

Probably not really helpful but I'd certainly recommend a big company for a good car.

Good luck with whatever method you end up with.

Agree, it can be hit or miss.  I used Reliable some years back and was very satisfied.  However, these days, not only will the major carriers be quite expensive, many will not serve smaller communities and rural areas, based on inquires I made last year.  Phoenix or Chicago, no problem.  Something like little ‘ol Auburn, NY – good luck.

I also do not recommend Bring-A-Trailer shipping, who will ship any car anywhere in the lower 48 at a fairly reasonable cost, but is also just a broker it turns out.   I recently used them, only due to the remote location of the car.  The car did arrive promptly, undamaged, in an enclosed trailer – however, the drivers spoke and understood very little English (they were Russian immigrants -legal at least), and they were very courteous, but unfamiliar with old Chryslers.  They left the electric choke switch on despite clear instructions to the contrary (which they did not understand due to language barriers) , which on this car is wired live even with the engine off, and ran the battery dead, then jump started the car without my consent, not good for the battery, but no other damage.

Interesting comments, and fully agree to not use a broker.

This past Spring, one of my local 300-F owner buddies shipped 5 or 6 of his new-Concours cars using Reliable from Phoenix to here in the Chicago area when he and his wife sold their winter home down there. Two of the cars broke loose - one was his ‘65 4-4-2 convertible - and moderately damaged them. He’s still dealing with Reliable to get the cars repaired.

Then, cruising home on the interstate last week in my F from a local car show, rolling at about 74 mph, a Horseless Carriage rig passed me by at at least 80, closely following the medium heavy traffic, and trying to pass most of it. My only thoughts were - what was in that trailer and hopes it gets to its destination undamaged.

Good luck!

Noel

Larry-

Whatever you do, don’t use a broker. Hire one of the big 5, my preference is Intercity Lines. Horseless Carriage,  Reliable or similar. You may not get the date you want but dates are useless when a lousy shipper with inferior equipment picks up your car. Brokered shippers use anybody with a warm body and a truck, the cars are loaded and unloaded from truck to truck as it makes its way and nobody who gets behind the wheel knows anything about your car or cares.

Use shippers who know how to handle antique automobiles.

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a transport co to ship my 300 from Washington state to Minnesota. This is about a 1700 mile trip. The trailer would be enclosed. I have reached out to Reliable, Passport and Intercity Lines. They are unable to give any timeline whatsoever. Please go away price quotes were from $3500.00 to over $4000.00.

I did have a pick-up scheduled with a broker by the name of Montway, but the truck broke down and now they're unable to quote me a pick-up date. Have called a number of other brokers with not much success.

Did anyone have a good experience and or have knowledge of a reliable and trustworthy auto transporter. Hoping to transport the car ASAP. They're certainly great deal of scam artists in this field.

Thank-you

Larry Casey
