Re: {Chrysler 300} 300B wire harness recommendations

The more I inspect and handle the wires, the more it falls apart... at least in the engine compartment; not sure about under the dash.
But it seems that this project has turned from a 'maybe' to a 'must'.

I have no idea if this will work in this instance and it is entirely subject to John's comments, but Tom White once showed me his trick of saving old harnesses and what he did was peel it back until the wires were good, cut the good wire out, splice in an appropriate new wire, and then use the good old wire to make new ends, then re-wrap. In the case he showed me only the exposed wires outside the wrapped bundle were shot.

Again, no idea if it applies here, but Mr. White made a harness look brand new that way.

Hi Justin –

Your wiring situation is a fire waiting to happen. The car should not be driven until the harness is fully replaced.

All,

Thank you for the advice and recommendations!

I am a bit hesitant to start this job since I do not plan to pull the dash; perhaps spot repairing is the best course of action at the moment (?).  However, the visible wires are in very poor condition.  They appear to be rubber coated and the insulation crumbles easily... the cotton covers basically turn to dust when handled.  Below is a picture of the wiring block on the core support.  Not much color left for ID either.

This B is not optioned up (no pwr seats, no pwr windows, no AC), which should make it a bit easier.  But if I do order a harness, I'll try to get every last wire on the car.

John,

The name you were looking for who did the 300C looms is club member Greg Lettatt who lives in Canada.  He did one for me used in our 300C.  The quality was and is great, but I think Greg retired from that project many years ago.

When I restored my 57C, there was a club member who was doing an excellent job with reproducing the wiring harnesses for that year, but I don't think he is still making them anymore.  Can't remember the name as it was around 20 years ago.  Man, is time ever flying by.  I used the Rhode Island outfit in the 90's when I did my 55 C-300, and it worked fine.  Both cars were being completely taken apart, so it was easy to do the dash wiring with the dashes out of the cars.  I don't really want to even think about having to do the G convertible underdash wiring harness, or the harness for my Hurst, especially if trying to do them with the dash still in the car and an old man's eyesight and dexterity.  Yikes!

I have not used these folks in the past, but I did keep their website in my bookmarks. They say they can restore or reman ones original harness.

Hi Club,

There has been a rash of wiring related fires in the classic car circles that I associate with, so I figure it's time to stop tempting fate.

I found a few recos in the ForwardLook discussion forums, but I can't seem to figure out how to search the 300 listserver archives.  The two outfits I've found so far are:

YnZ's Yesterday's Parts

Rhode Island Wiring Service Inc.

Does anyone have first hand experience with either of these vendors, or are there other recommendations?  I do not have a "show" car, but I'd like something that is plug-n-play (mostly) and something that looks more/less original (cloth covers).  Please let me know!
