Re: {Chrysler 300} Replating Cad or Zinc

I have good news and bad news regarding the Yellow plating:

Midwest Plating in Grand Rapids (616.451.2007) is the best place to go for yellow plating.

Their website is https://midwest-plating.com/ and you should ask for Ryan for questions and particulars. It's been a few years since I have had them do a batch of parts for me, but they were inexpensive and very good at it. And they did not lose any of my roughly 50 little screws, pieces, and parts.
I just phoned them and the good news is that they are still doing the yellow plating. But unfortunately the bad news is that they are running out of the material and will permanently stop the yellow process toward the end of February. After that it will be the silver zinc coating only. THIS WILL BE YOUR LAST CHANCE AND YOU WILL HAVE TO REALLY HUSTLE !!!!
For most parts they put them in a basket that I recall to be about 12" in diameter and a few inches high. Whatever fit in the basket/batch cost something like $35 or so - probably a little more now. They first acid bathed the batch and then plated them - in a very short turnaround time too. You will pay a reasonable amount for packing and shipping as well.

Good luck!

Hello All -

Do any members have good experience with someone who can refinish parts in Cadmium II (chromate wash)  or Zinc w/chromate wash or just bright zinc (almost bluish)?  I'm looking at relatively small parts like carburetor linkages, small mounting brackets, even individual small bolts and nuts.  Biggest item might be the 12-inch diameter sheetmetal fan shroud strap for a Porsche 911.  IMHO, there's no good substitute for the multi-color iridescent colors in gold (sic) Cad II!  I know the cursed EPA has really cracked down on the Cad plating, and even now are forcing chrome platers out of the superior three-step (copper-nickel-chrome) hexavalent chrome chemistry and into the cheaper, but inferior trivalent chrome.  And inputs on who still does the hex chrome?

I seem to remember a recent post from Kurt Brueske that he might be involved in this.

I have been using Sherm’s for years. Very good work. Never lost a thing. I tried a place  the CA Central Valley and they lost a critical part and gave me someone else’s part and the chrome has not held up. Mistake. Back to Sherm’s.

Sherm’s is very expensive, but the work is great. The downside is the 8 to 10 weeks.

I need to drop some stuff off there in the next week or two.

Hi Bob, Sherm's plating in Sacramento is the best. They don't loose parts or destroy pot metal.
I owned a plating shop and it takes a high skill level to get a good finish on pot metal. Good luck.

I’m looking for contact information on a chrome plater mentioned on the list a while back, I believe they were in Wisconsin.  I’d appreciate information on that plater or any that have done pot metal parts, I’ve got a pair of tail light housings I need to get done.

Thanks!
