Re: {Chrysler 300} Electric fuel pump recommendation

I have had good results with Carters. To me some noise is a good thing. You know it’s running. The ammeter tells if it’s running too.

One of the issues with always on fuel pumps is heat. The Carter rotary pump is a very good design…but…long periods of idling can cause it to overheat and kill itself.

Many years ago, I talked with the Carter Engineers, when it was still Carter, and they told me to take a tee and machine a brass slug with a hole in it, I think it was 3/32” and then press it into the tee.

Then plumb in a return line to the tank so that there would always be a bleed of fuel back to the tank. That 3/32” was enough so that the pump would never overheat.

An added benefit is that in stop and go traffic you got cooler fuel up to the carb as the heat soak was being drawn away and back to the tank.

By two cents worth.  James

the carter pump , the lower pressure  one , is reliable and a long time proven design , but if mounted using their bracket ,it transmits noise to the frame  Their  little rubber grommets are a really lame attempt at fixing that  . I agree aggravating noise . …

I am experimenting with letting it hang by the rubber coupling  hoses  by securing them on each side   3-4” away from the pump by main bearing-  like hose clamp blocks . Car not done yet

I would use FI rated hose to get good  reinforcement  ( cord in the  hose) . It ought to be a lot quieter

I also see they came  up with an in tank pump ( like an FI pump) that has the low pressure output for carbs. It is small.  I bought one but have not tried it . It looks like it could be secured to our gas gauge float bracket .

One does not hear the 50 psi fuel injection pumps in tanks … but seems crazy to use that 50  and a regulator  , thought about that , too much to go wring  in bad ways. but then saw this carb pump—-

Interesting issue , I hope someone  tries faster than I will get to it and reports back

By the way  there is an oil pump pressure  switch used in late 70’ s dodge trucks 318 that can supply power to FI pump relay oil over 5 psi ,you use a tee  I wire that from ign through  a 1N4007 diode to the pump relay and also another  diode   off the start wire . Line on diode toward relay . 10 A fuse on power .

The G3136-1 will make noise. How much depends upon where and to what it is mounted. All electric pumps make some kind of noise, unlike the engine driven mechanical pump.

Can anyone recommend an electric fuel pump that is relatively quiet ?

Not interested in "in-line" pumps.

Summit has  a G3136-1 for $96. Any experience with this pump ?

Thanks
