i haven't tried polishing my grill yet, but i did do a test spot with some turtlewax rubbing compound.  on what i could properly rub, came out pretty good.  i will have to disassemble my grill to properly buff it though.  my father has some aluminum diamond plate on his truck- accents for his custom bed, and on the step.  rubbing compound did good removing the haze, but did nothing for light scratches.  we then washed it, and put some 'never-dull' on it.  came out looking close to new, aside from a few scratches that were still in the finish.  not sure what will take that out.  i think i will try mothers polish for the finish coat next time, i have had good luck w/ that in the past.
I am not sure how to send this to every one on the mailing list so i am just replying to sender.  --j

Hi Ed. - Be careful about grills, there were two types, same overall egg crate look but one had smooth horizontal bars and one had fine serations on the horizontal bars.  The grills are a dull anodized aluminum not bright, other than having them re-anodized the only thing you can do is get some Mothers Mag and Aluminum Cleaner and go to work. same for the front parking light bezels.  If you buy the half that is on e-bay and it is NOS it probable will not match the half you have and will probably look far better, find out if its the plain or serated one.  Also, just because it has a tag saying it's NOS doesn't mean it really is. Complete grills show up quite frequently on e-bay but you take a chance on condition and price varies.  If yours won't clean up enough for you and it's in good shape otherwise you may want to have it anodized.  Do not send me any anodized aluminum pieces I can't do much with them.  I'm going to send this to the 59 mailing list. Maybe some of the other guys can offer some advice.
Dick.
