holley started all the cfm stuff in the early 60's. i don't recommend  buying 
a carb by cfm ratings. if you use holleys method of sizing a carb you  will 
most likely be under carb'ed. sometimes i lean towards the old fashion  formula 
of 1sq. in. of venturi per 40 cu. in. of displacement for maximum  
performance. in reality none of the formulas are perfect in all  situations.
